Providing healthcare access to the underserved Las Cruces community and surrounding region. Our TCHR IM Residency Program is Primary Care focused. TCRH established the hospital owned Primary Care based clinic in February 2023, hiring 2 IM PCPs, designated 8 exam rooms in the clinic which will assist in creating a patient panel by the time our residents start the program. This initiative demonstrates our aim to serve our community.

We have hired five FTE IM board certified hospitalists for inpatient rotations and two part time IM board certified physicians; these two physicians carry extensive experience in clinicals, administration and research. In addition, TCRH has established specialty owned clinics including Cardiologists, Endocrinologist, Nephrologist, Pain Clinic, and Gynecology clinic. These services will provide our residents with extra exposure by offering rotating opportunities and will produce highly educated Primary Care based physicians.

Resident retention in our Las Cruces community. We want to produce residents that will serve the local community through their primary care practice, hospital medicine and medical subspecialities. These practitioners should have expertise in treating the variety of patient populations in our community, with a particular understanding of the medically underserved. TCRH will give preference to local residency candidates and will aim to keep at least 50% in Las Cruces to serve our community. TCRH has signed a mutual agreement with Burrell Osteopathic Medical School and currently have their medical states in various rotations at TCRH.

Empower residents to identify social determinants of health, to address disparities and to create a system that promotes equitable access, treatment, and outcomes for all patients. TCRH will engage local primary care physicians that carry extensive experience and familiarity in understanding pathophysiology, common conditions and pathologies of the Las Cruces population to deliver lectures which will provide our residents with medical knowledge and awareness.

Quality and Patient Safety

Train residents to provide competent care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings not limited by organ system, gender or age. TCRH will strive to achieve this with direct observation by the Program Director monthly in both the clinic and hospital setting. We plan to ensure that residents attend mandatory conferences and lectures, maintain accuracy of documentation in inpatient and outpatient charts through audits, and will s hare and discuss achievement of Quality Metrics as reported through patient registries, achieving hospital stewardship goals, participate in various hospital committees which will assist in producing well-rounded physicians.
