Academics

We offer basic research opportunities, exposure to subspecialties, and a strong academic basis with a variety of patient care. Residents have access to a library, simulation center, and research facilities because to our partnership with the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM), which is situated within 7 miles from TCRH.  Residents also work closely with BCOM students while rotating in both the inpatient and outpatient settings and participating in a “Residents as Teachers” curriculum.

Every Thursday, we have our weekly didactics from 12 to 5 p.m. (see didactics for breakdown of sessions) This laid-back setting enables faculty and residents to come together for mental and physical well-being, to attend lectures that present the most recent, evidence-based medical techniques, and to discuss clinical cases from a team-oriented, multidisciplinary perspective.

Each didactic session is 1 hour long and covers following topics

  1. ABIM-structured Lectures: These lectures , which are led by board-certified doctors, cover every subspecialty of internal medicine as well as hospital medicine.
  2. Case Presentations discuss cases which aids residents in creating plans and assessments for complicated patients. Will be supervised by PD, APD, core faculty and subspecialists
  3. Journal Club
  4. Grand Rounds
  5. Board review with MKSAP
  6. Personal well-being lectures
  7. Simulation and procedure training
  8. Morbidity & mortality conference
  9. Physician financial wellness seminars
  10. Billing & coding/Business of medicine lectures

Scholarly Activity

One scholarly activity must be completed by residents per academic year. Examples include quality improvement projects, publications and IRB-approved studies, webinars, and poster and podium presentations at local, regional, and national meetings.

Committees

At least one committee must be joined by each resident. Examples include GMEC, MEC,  infectious disease committee, Utilization review committee, Pharmacy and therapeutics committee, mortality and morbidity, patient safety, quality improvement, and sepsis committee.

Official Mentoring Program

Residents will have regular meetings with a faculty advisor assigned by the  program director, who will discuss rotation evaluations, give feedback, and outline a clear course for success based on the resident’s career objectives.

Curriculum

TRCH IM academic year is structured as twelve monthly blocks running from July 1 to June 30 each academic year. Residents will be assigned half day IM clinic weekly, and didactics occur each Thursday 12PM to 5 PM. See block schedule for the yearly breakdown rotations. This curriculum is actually an example and could be modified in accordance with the most recent ACGME accreditation standards.
